BLACK TEA: Satemwa OP1, Malawi, Africa
Satemwa OP1
Black tea, Malawi, Africa
Smoke, spice, wood, dried fruit ~ medium-bodied
A classic, brisk, full-leaf black tea from the Shire Highlands in Thyolo, southern Malawi. Satemwa OP1 is a small batch tea, grown and hand-plucked by a local farmer, then purchased and processed by Satemwa Tea Estates. This is their April 2021 harvest.
At 100°C the infusion is clean and brisk with notes of smoke, wood and spice. 95/90°C softens the infusion and emphasises its fruity notes.
Founded in 1923, Satemwa is a small, family-run tea estate in Malawi, Africa. Satemwa is certified by Fair Trade & Rainforest Alliance and has a strong focus on sustainability and ethical tea production.
Preparation: Steep for 3-4 minutes at 90°C - 100°C. Two infusions.
Sizes: Satemwa OP1 comes in four sizes: a 3 gram single serve, then 20g, 50g and 100g pouches. Our leaves can all be steeped at least twice (often more), so while the 3g pouch is a single serve (150 mls - a standard tea cup size), it will give you two cups if you steep the leaves twice.
