Black tea lover's taster box ~ light style

China is known as the birthplace of tea, with Emperor Sheng Nung discovering tea way back in 2737BC. Since then the Chinese tea masters have perfected their techniques, producing tea with flavour profiles that rival any other natural beverage in the world.

We have hand selected four Chinese black teas, each with a unique flavour profile. These are all lighter in body than most black teas produced in countries like India, Sri Lanka and Africa, so they work perfectly on their own, without milk.

To make it easy for you or your gift recipient to brew the perfect cup of black tea, you can choose to upgrade this box to include our tea glass infuser and long handled tea spoon, which comes packaged in our large gift box.

The teas currently in our black tea lover's box are:

Black Gold Pearls
Malt, chocolate, sweet and spicy
Buds and leaves from the 2018 Spring harvest in Feng Qing, China, have been expertly hand-rolled into beautiful large tea pearls. This imperial grade of tea has visible golden ‘tips’ weaved throughout each pearl. The malty, chocolate notes mean this tea works nicely with a morning or afternoon snack of bliss balls, nuts, chocolate biscuits and pastries.

China Red
Dried berries, wood, chocolate
This stunning black tea also comes from the Feng Qing, China, and is crafted from a unique hybrid of two local tea plant varietals. The combination of these tea plants, the natural environment and the unique processing creates a distinctive tea. Smell China Red’s slender dried leaves and you might be reminded of black forest chocolate. The steeped tea emits an aroma of ripe fruit and sweet malt and a flavour of dried red berries, wood, malt and dark chocolate.

Lapsang Souchong
Ripe plum, wood, smokey finish
Lapsang Souchong often thought of as a highly smokey tea (and many Lapsang Souchong’s are as they are smoke dried over pine wood fires) but this is an unsmoked version of the tea. From the moment you smell the dry leaves you are struck by an assortment of flavour notes - plum, stone-fruit tree blossoms, tree bark - which carry through to the steeped tea alongside notes of malt, freshly-cut wood, mineral and a subtle smoke finish. This Lapsang Souchong is a rich and clean black tea.

Black Pine Needle
Chocolate, dried fruit, spice
This premium black tea comes from Shi Aan Village, Yunnan, China. Yunnan is the birthplace of tea and this particular style of black tea was first produced more than 1500 years ago, making it one of the world’s oldest teas. Once you have poured the tea, close your eyes and its delicious aroma might remind you of a freshly baked chocolate tart. It has a slightly earthier edge than the other Chinese black teas and this, along with its chocolate and dried fruit notes, creates a lovely mellow infusion.

Each tea is 20 grams and the leaves can be steeped at least twice. The box includes a little note card to introduce the box to the gift recipient as well as our tea steeping and tasting guide.
