Tea for Christmas day

description

Tea has a diverse and interesting flavour profile – one that is as complex, if not more so, than wine. And in the same way that you can pair wine with food, you can also pair tea with food

With our Tea for Christmas Day box, you can add a little extra sparkle to Christmas Day and enhance your Christmas dinner with a tea pairing for each course. These teas are an excellent alternative or accompaniment to your Christmas day wine selection.

Our Tea for Christmas Day box includes:

~ three single origin loose-leaf teas

~ a little note card to introduce the teas and our pairing suggestions, and

~ our tea steeping and tasting guide

All packaged in our signature gift box.

You can choose to upgrade this box to include our tea glass infuser and long handled tea spoon, which comes packaged in our large gift box (select size 'Large' above).

The teas in our Tea for Christmas Day box are:

Temi First Flush,
Organic black tea, India
Muscatel, dried apricot, rose, sweet spice

Temi First Flush is a unique, high-grade black tea from Temi Tea Estate, an organic tea farm situated in a tranquil, mountainous area in the North Eastern reaches of India, nestled between Nepal and Bhutan. The first leaf shoots that appear after the winter dormancy are carefully plucked to create this 'first flush' tea (2018 harvest). The dry leaves have a surprising hint of green apple and they infuse into a highly aromatic tea with notes of dried apricot, rose, muscatel with malty and sweet spice undertones.

Serve Temi: cold-brewed in sparkling water either as an apertif or paired with your appetisers - particularly light seafood such as scallops, prawns and oysters.

Lumbini OP1
Black tea, Sri Lanka
Forest wood, spice, malt, hints of wild honey
In the highest tea valley in Southern Sri Lanka, surrounded by 25,000 hectares of virgin rainforest, lies the Lumbini Tea Valley. Nestled in its pristine environment, Lumbini’s focus on sustainable tea practices as well as artisan craftsmanship of tea means some of the best teas in Sri Lanka come from this tea garden.

This is one of its top black teas, where the top two leaves are hand-plucked from the tea plant, then carefully withered, rolled and fired, gently coaxing out all of the flavour nuances from inside the leaf. When steeped, this tea has warming notes of forest wood, spice and malt, with a hint of wild honey sweetness.

Serve Lumbini: hot steeped with your mains - the body and astringency of this tea works well with meat as well as vegetarian dishes.

Plum Nectar
Oolong tea, Taiwan
Baked fruit crumble, caramelised sugar

As soon as you pour hot water over these leaves pay attention to the fragrance and you’ll notice sweet, roasted plum notes being released from the steeping leaves. The leaves have been heavily oxidised and roasted, creating an aroma reminiscent of a freshly baked fruit crumble and flavours of roasted stone fruit, dry toast and wood. While this tea isn’t certified, it is grown in organic conditions in Luye, Taitung County, southern Taiwan – a region that only produces a small amount of tea compared to other parts of the country. Spring 2018 harvest.

Serve Plum Nectar: with your deserts. The fruity notes of this tea will enhance the sweetness of any fruit you serve and the roasty, nutty notes will act as a nice counterbalance to sweet, rich deserts.

If you would like to add a tea to serve after desert to your box, we suggest adding Tangerine Ripe Puerh to your cart (after you have selected 'Add to your cart' above). This is an earthy dark tea that aids digestion and also pairs beautifully with cheese.

Each tea is 20 grams (enough to serve seven people, however each tea can be steeped at least twice providing tea for even more).
